Product Update

Tommy Stiansen

For the past several years, our company has slowly and methodically developed a powerful solution stack, establishing Nexicon as a serious player in the digital media protection industry. We have strategically prepared our infrastructure for rapid growth, not to mention the ability to deliver with higher quality than any other competitor in our field. However, our marketing and sales efforts have until this point been less focused and more random. The reason behind this is that we have not allowed short-term gratification to interfere with our long-term objectives. We all know that in business, roads are paved over time. But the vision and goals for Nexicon have never changed. Our strategy has proven effective, and Nexicon is now competing with corporations 100 times our size. If you sit back and think about it, we are but a handful of people in control of an infrastructure that makes up for hundreds of human resources, allowing us to work with some of the largest companies in the world. This is truly a moment to be a proud Nexicon family member, and we will only move faster and grow larger from here.

I want to share with you a sample of our product achievements and objectives that we have already met. First,  our Google Earth(TM) integration - DigitalRanger’s(TM) ‘EarthView’(TM) module that shows a customer live, real-time, illegal downloads of their digital assets happening around the globe is now released and in pilot with a global media and entertainment company. EarthView’s reporting capabilities enables a customer to see historic downloads back to 2004. This has become an amazing eye-opener for clients, and in fact anyone we have demonstrated EarthView to leaves our Malibu office with their jaw dropped and fingers tapping away on their Blackberry.

Of course, simply wowing strategic partners, our own employees, or prospective clients will not drive revenue, but now showing clients how this powerful tool will deliver value for themselves, will drive substantial revenue.  By including filters and other technologies, we are able to show a musician or band, where their fans are located, and what songs the fans in those metropolitan areas like. Imagine a bar graph with the ten most popular cities around the world, and then plot those results against the surrounding cities within a given mile radius and boom, a tour plan is created (TourScope as we call it.) This is but the tip of the iceberg, as we can deliver to a touring band data such as 1) Songs to be selected for performances 2) How to market the tour and 3) Where to market the tour within driving distance from the most popular or convenient venues. We can now combine TourScope with GetAmnesty(TM) and PayArtists, using this product as a marketing engine for the upcoming tour, enabling the artists to conduct a full-scale and revolutionary communication to their own fans - informing them of the tour and the opportunity to ‘Get Amnesty’ by purchasing a ticket to the upcoming show.

Musicians must remember that no matter how painful it is to internalize, illegal downloaders are not pirates and are fans. Nexicon will become the standard mechanism for connecting fans to their favorite artists and artists with their fans, again. This is just the very beginning of how GetAmnesty & PayArtists will provide new and untapped value for artists and their fan base.

GetAmnesty and PayArtists are released into production, and both have completed successful pilots, exceeding our expectations. As I write, the system is sending hundreds of notices per hour with consistent, daily incoming settlement payments. In the coming weeks, we will be implementing more features for these offerings and begin intensive marketing efforts. Interestingly, we shot into a planned future phase earlier that anticipated, as ISPs have approached us about a potential revenue share model. All of these developments have moved faster than I had thought, but our systematic approach in preparing our solutions for this time has proven wise. We are making history, and you can read about it as it happens, here.

Future state, in testing, business scenario - and you may want to sit down. Imagine a consumer that we will call John Doe (”John”). Imagine an e-retailer, let’s call them Amazon Doe (”Amazon”). John decided to download some music and some software and some books from some P2P file-sharing protocol on his computer. Next, John went to Amazon and decided to make a purchase. During the checkout process, Amazon was using Nexicon’s MARC(TM) system which enabled them to do the following to John: “Dear John, it has come to our attention that you consumed these digital assets, from these file-sharing protocols and we was wondering on behalf of the digital media’s owner, if we could charge you a small fee for them since you obviously like them. The content owner will offer you an excellent deal.”  John says, “What the hell it’s only $9.99, OK.”  Amazon generates an extra $3, the content owner makes an extra $4, and John saves himself a lot of trouble and becomes a trusted consumer of the content owner, and will receive once in a lifetime discounts for the next 12 months. What could be better?  I forgot to mention that Nexicon made a few dollars as well. Now multiply that scenario with a $94 billion annual industry.

We have many more cards up our sleeves, and I am excited to share them over the coming weeks and months. I would again personally like to salute and thank all of the support given by the people around us for without it, this adventure would not have been so rewarding. Stay tuned for the next blog that will be interesting reading as it affects all of our lives.
